Park Centraal Amsterdam

Park Centraal Amsterdam Review: Boutique Luxury near Leidseplein

Having just returned from a short break in Amsterdam to attend Amsterdam World Pride 2026, I wanted to share my thoughts on where I stayed: Park Centraal Amsterdam. Although the property has been welcoming guests on this spot since 1840, it currently operates as a trendy, boutique-style hotel under the Sircle Hotels banner. It turned out to be an exceptional choice for a capital city break.

The Good

  • Location: Tucked away near Leidseplein and Vondelpark, the Park Centraal Amsterdam strikes a great balance. You are a few minutes’ walk from the iconic Rijksmuseum and its world-class collection of Rembrandt masterpieces, with plenty of independent restaurants, shops, and even a local casino nearby. Crucially, being situated directly opposite a main tram stop makes exploring the rest of Amsterdam effortless while shielding you from the sheer noise of Dam Square. I felt completely safe wandering the neighbourhood at all hours.
  • Welcoming Vibe: Stepping into reception, the open-plan layout flows straight into the hotel bar, creating an airy, stylish first impression. Being offered a complimentary glass of prosecco while checking in set a delightful tone for the stay.
  • Comfortable, Quiet Rooms: Positioned on the 5th floor, my room was brightly decorated and featured remarkably cosy beds. The light-blocking blackout curtains worked brilliantly—a non-negotiable feature for me when staying in hotels. Small practical touches stood out too, like the dedicated tea/coffee maker and an in-room clothes steamer to tackle any packing creases.
  • Eco Credentials: Sircle Hotels takes environmental sustainability seriously. I had the opportunity to speak with their Sustainability and Environmental Director, Gavin Fraser, about their initiatives, including EarthCheck approvals and green living roofs (one of which I could actually see directly from my room window).
  • Fresh Breakfast Setup: The dining room is modern and inviting. There was no queue to be seated on either morning, and alongside a well-stocked continental buffet, they serve a cooked-to-order à la carte menu.

The Bad

  • Bathroom Ventilation: The bathroom includes a generous walk-in rainfall shower, but the extraction system struggled to keep up. It steamed up heavily, making it nearly impossible to use the mirror immediately afterwards.

Stuart’s Verdict

Park Centraal is an outstanding base if you want top-tier location, chic design, and genuine comfort without being swallowed up by the heavy tourist crowds in the city centre.

For UK travellers, getting to Amsterdam could not be simpler. British Airways operates frequent daily flights from London Heathrow and London City, while KLM serves a wide array of regional UK airports like Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, and Edinburgh. Alternatively, if you prefer avoiding the airport entirely, Eurostar offers direct train services straight into Amsterdam Centraal from London St Pancras International.
